Joe Louis Walker

NewMusicforOldFolks says …

Joe Louis Walker will be making the jump to the Mascot Label Group for his upcoming album Everybody Wants a Piece due out Oct. 9. Like many musicians, Walker has jumped around from label to label during his career. That hasn't kept him from producing consistently strong, jumpin' R&B-infused blues. I started with Blues of the Month Club, but Between a Rock and the Blues is also very strong. Everybody Wants a Piece was released in October 2015.

Bio (From the artist's website)

Joe Louis Walker, a Blues Hall of Fame inductee and four-time Blues Music Award winner celebrates a career that exceeds a half a century. His new album Everybody Wants A Piece cements his legacy as a prolific torchbearer for the blues. Looking back on his rich history, Walker shares, “I’d like to be known for the credibility of a lifetime of being true to my music and the blues. Sometimes I feel I’ve learned more from my failures, than from my success . But that’s made me stronger and more adventurous. And helped me create my own style . I’d like to think that when someone puts on one of my records they would know from the first notes, ‘That’s Joe Louis Walker.'” (more)

EVERYBODY WANTS A PIECE (2015): With a career that goes back to the 1960s, Joe Louis Walker is one of trailblazers of the blues. The award-winning guitar slinger, vocalist and songwriter has played and recorded with everyone from Lightning Hopkins (who once threw him off the stage) to B.B. King to James Cotton. Walker has released 24 more albums and two DVDs and toured worldwide. He’s won four Blues Music Awards, including the 2010 Album Of The Year Award forBetween A Rock And A Hard Place, and has been nominated for 47 more. Raining fire with his guitar and spitting brimstone with his vocals, Everybody Want A Piece begins a brand new chapter in Joe Louis Walker’s already legendary career.

HORNET'S NEST (2014): On his dynamic new CD, Hornet's Nest, Walker's music is equal parts rock 'n' roll fire and blistering, passionate blues. The album was recorded in Nashville and produced by songwriter/ drummer Tom Hambridge (producer of James Cotton's Grammy-nominated Cotton Mouth Man, Buddy Guy's recent Grammy-winning CDs and Walker's previous CD, Hellfire). The release — featuring 12 songs, including nine new originals — blends Walker's boundless energy and his myriad influences into a contemporary blues tour-de-force. His always-inventive guitar playing is matched note-for-note by his fervent vocals. From menacing, hard rocking electric blues to cool Memphis funk to R&B rave-ups to Sunday morning gospel, Walker's blues-- fierce and untamed, adventurous and fun — continue to define the genre.
