Please be my advisory committee

Hello friends, including those I’ve never met. Thank you for taking the time to visit newmusicforoldfolks.com. You’re early adopters, and I’d like to ask for your assistance. I had the idea for this website in my head for a couple of years before I decided this summer that it was time to stop just thinking about it and do it. Every time I go to a show, I see groups of people my age (or a dozen years or so either way) enjoying the music. These aren’t huge arena shows, they’re smaller venues — bars, theaters and small-town blues festivals. “These are my people,” I always say. “They need a website for information on music like this.” (I just think the second part; I rarely say it out loud.)

Anyway, this website has been a lot of fun over the last three months and, even though it’s been live the entire time, I think it’s just about reached the point that I would consider it ready to go. There are more than 90 artists profiles, and I’ll keep adding to the list. There are a half-dozen “Featured Posts” that aren’t specific to one artist or band, just entertaining (hopefully) writings on the subject. I’m hoping to have more of both, but some record companies have been quicker than others at providing information. And as much as I’d like it to be, this is not my fulltime job.

This is where you people come in. You’ve gotten in on the ground floor. I’d like to ask those that have visited the site so far and those that have liked its Facebook page to provide some feedback. You’re going to be like an advisory board. What do you like and/or not like? What should there be more and/or less of? What can I do to direct more traffic to the site? Also, this is a one-man operation and seeing your own typos is often not the easiest thing in the world. There may also be links that don’t go where they’re supposed to go. Point them out; I want to fix them.

There are a couple of ways you can do this for me. First, you can send me an email at info@newmusicforoldfolks.com. Second, you can put them on the Facebook page. If they’re about typos or bad links, I’ll fix them and then delete the posts. If it’s about suggestions for the website I’ll leave them up for discussion. When I can, I’ll try to give you feedback on your feedback. There are also comment boxes at the bottom of most pages that I encourage you to use for comments about the artists other relevant subjects. But I don’t get a notice when you comment and there are too many pages to check regularly, so please use one of the other methods for direct feedback.

I really want to make this website work (and make it my fulltime job), and the best way to do that is to make it a place people will want to visit often, make it responsive to their needs. As the advisory board, I’d like you to help me do that. Thanks in advance for your time and effort.
