The String Cheese Incident

NewMusicforOldFolks says …

It's probably an exaggeration for say that The String Cheese Incident makes the Grateful Dead seem like The Ramones, but they'll play all night if you let them. If you go to YouTube in search of a video to include with this profile of The String Cheese Incident there are dozens. The hardest thing is finding one that's less than three hours long. It's difficult to classify the kind of music that SCI plays. Bluegrass is a good place to start, but that's probably only because one of the members plays the mandolin. It branches off in so many directions its difficult to say. The only thing you can say for certain is that it's not Classical (nobody plays the cello or the oboe). Trick or Treat, a collection of 18 Halloween show covers by the band includes songs by The Police, The Beatles, Bob Marley, KC & the Sunshine Band, Paul Simon, Black Sabbath and The Clash. No wonder it takes three hours to play a show, but it's not so much about the songs as it is about the musicianship, which is first rate.

SONG IN MY HEAD (2014): Song In My Head is perhaps the band's tightest and most skillful album yet. After years of feeling more like live players than studio musicians, the band members finally tapped into the skill that two decades worth of performing brings. There's also an overarching sense of joy and renewed passion throughout. "Stylistically, the album feels like the most modern expression of our music," drummer Michael Travis says. "This album feels more genuinely us. It s everything we ve learned about making an album."
