Eric Bibb

NewMusicforOldFolks says …

I've done two profiles today — Joe Bonamassa and Eric Bibb. The genre for both is the Blues, and they couldn't better illustrate the breadth of the genre. Bonamassa is the up tempo master of the electric guitar solo. Eric Bibb is on the other side of the Blues coin. He's also an accomplished guitar player, but it hardly sounds like the same instrument. Predominately acoustic and often unaccompanied, Bibb's songs make a statement (not that Bonamassa's don't). Like Bonamassa, Bibb has playing professionally since before he could order a beer. He's also a prolific recording artist. In addition to the two dozen or so albums listed below, Bibb has done another dozen or so with other artists. Feel like relaxing after a tough day? Pour yourself a glass of wine, put on some Eric Bibb, sit back and enjoy.

Bio (From the artist's website)

A professional player at 16, playing in the house band for his father’s television talent show, Something New, Eric went on to study (psychology and Russian) at Columbia University, but “after a while it just didn’t make much sense; I didn’t understand why I was at this Ivy League school with all these kids who didn’t know anything about what I knew about,” he says now. Aged 19, he left for Paris, where a meeting with American studio guitarist Mickey Baker focused his interest in blues guitar. (more)

BLUES PEOPLE (2014): The concept of Blues People came to Eric Bibb when he was at the Blues Foundation Awards in Memphis. It inspired him to create a collection of songs about change and hope in collaboration with friends like Taj Mahal, The Blind Boys Of Alabama, Ruthie Foster (who he has been touring with), Michael Jerome Browne, Harrison Kennedy and many others. Eric Bibb is one of the highest profile international roots musicians, winning Acoustic Artist of the Year at the Blues Music Awards and having been nominated for a Grammy.
