Gov't Mule

NewMusicForOldFolks says …

Warren Haynes represents everything we're about here at newmusicforoldfolks.com. Always moving forward, even when he's looking back, Haynes and drummer Matt Abts have taken Gov't Mule where few if any Rock ’n Roll bands have gone before. The Mule's last studio album, Shout!, was truly unique. The band recorded 11 original songs for one CD, then included another CD with those 11 songs featuring the band playing behind 11 different singers including Dr. John, Ben Harper and Elvis Costello. Then over the last year and a half they've released four live albums, Dark Side of the Mule (all Pink Floyd covers) Sco-Mule (a live show with jazz guitarist John Scofield), Dub Side of the Mule (a reggae show with the legendary Toots Hibbert) and Stoned Side of the Mule (all Rolling Stones covers). Meanwhile, Haynes has multiple side projects including The Warren Haynes Band and playing with the Dead and, until recently, with the Allman Brothers Band. Other than that, he doesn't do much.

Bio (from the artist's website)

Rock torchbearers Gov’t Mule are celebrating their 20th anniversary with an extensive tour and a series of dynamic live archival releases that highlight the group’s versatility and epic, fearless live performances. No two Gov’t Mule shows are alike, as the band draws on the more than 300 songs in their repertoire (and often a host of special guests) to create a unique experience each and every time. Their steadily expanding fan base knows that the Mule always has something special waiting for them. Expect the unexpected. The deep chemistry and steely confidence shared by the quartet allow them to tackle any form of music and stamp it their own while remaining true to the spirit and intent of the original. This can of course be heard any time guitarist-singer Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, bassist Jorgen Carlsson and multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis take the stage, but a series of new live archival releases really drives the point home.
