Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears

NewMusicForOldFolks says …

Depending on which direction you're coming from, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears play funky Blues or bluesy Funk. Either way it's a lot of fun and it's hard to sit still while listening. You may have heard the song "Sugarfoot" in the playlist below, but otherwise Lewis has been pretty much under the radar anywhere but his hometown of Austin, Texas for most of the last decade. That could change with his new album Backlash due out in February and the national tour set up to go with it. If that tour is coming anywhere near you, get out there and check Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears out.

ELECTRIC SLAVE (2013): Most of Electric Slave was produced by GRAMMY award winner Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, Cat Power, Modest Mouse) and recorded at Church House Studios in Austin, TX. Three of the new tracks (Skulldiggin, Dar Es Salaam, My Blood Ain't Runnin' Right) were recorded and produced by John Congleton (Explosions in the Sky, St. Vincent, Okkervil River) at Elmwood Studios in Dallas. Commenting about the new album s title and thematic elements, Joe himself said: "Electric Slave is what people are today with their faces buried in their iPhones and the only way to hold a conversation is through text. The next step is to plug it in to your damned head. Nothing is up front anymore and people are de socializing."
