The Band of Heathens

NewMusicForOldFolks says …

If you listen to The Band of Heathens looking for influences you'll hear many. The one I hear most is The Eagles — great harmonies and songs that are simple and complex at the same time. If Henley and Fry had been born 30 years later and they'd met in Henley's Texas instead of Southern California, this is the kind of band they might have formed. The Austin-based Heathens have been going for more than a decade and have five studio and a number of live recordings in their catalog. The newest, DUENDE, is very good. The song you may have heard if "Hurricane" from the album Top Hat Crown & The Clapmaster's Son.

Bio (From the artist's webpage)

duende – [duen-de] (noun) 1. a quality of inspiration and passion 2. A heightened sense of emotion, expression and authenticity 3. a spirit. Duende, the title of The Band of Heathens’ fifth studio album (and eighth overall), marks their tenth anniversary as a group, and it certainly applies to its overall theme about the collective search for connection and communion in a technology-fueled world increasingly splintered, distracted and lonely. As band co-founder Ed Jurdi, who first learned of the term, explains, “It’s the essence of the artist,” or as partner Gordy Quist says, “It’s a word we don’t have an equivalent for in English, Artistically, that’s where we tried to set the bar, to do what this band does best.” (more)

DUENDE (2016): It’s been a little over three years since The Band of Heathens released the band's last full-length album. While that is definitely the longest break between albums the band ever had, it’s been a busy few years. BOH has been around the country on tour a few times; toured across Europe a couple times; sailed away on about a dozen rock-boat style cruises; spent time touring and recording with some great artist friends like Hayes Carll, Kid Rock, Tim Easton, Joe Fletcher; and been hard at work in four different studios in three different states writing and recording what we feel is the band's best work it's ever put forth.
